The following is a list of 100 colleges and information about which
tests they want their applicants to take.  Notice that most liberal arts
colleges do not require any SAT 2’s and many do not require the
SAT/ACT either. Most public universities require the SAT/ACT but do not
require any SAT 2’s.

Note also that many schools we work with have not submitted any SAT
2’s to those schools and have still been admitted. Cornell has different
rules for each of its seven colleges, as well as for some of the
programs within those colleges. Also, many schools do not have a
requirement but some majors do. For example, if you are planning to
major in Engineering, Business, or Pre-med, you should submit a Math
SAT 2.  Pre-med students should also submit a science SAT.

Finally, notice that all colleges accept ACT scores as well as or instead
of the SAT, and often instead of both the SAT and the SAT 2. Overall, the
purpose of this list is to get you to realize that there are many, many
schools that will look at your grades, your recommendations, and your
extra-curricular activities and will look at your standardized tests only if
they will help your application. Of course, you should check on a
specific college’s web site to verify the requirements.

Math with SAT, none with ACT
**** Hamilton allows you to substitute an SAT or an ACT with three exams of your choice, which
must include a quantitative test, a verbal or writing test, and a third of your choice.
***** Pitzer is test-optional for students who are in the top 10% of their class, or who have an
unweighted GPA of 3.50 or higher by the application deadline. If you do not meet these
requirements, you may submit two exams in place of the SAT or ACT: one recent junior or senior
year graded, analytical writing sample from a humanities or social science course, AND one
mathematics examination, preferably a final or end-of-semester exam in the most advanced
mathematics course possible (at least the algebra II level.
Best "sitting score" means that the college considers scores from your single highest test date.
* Boston University requires SAT II (subject tests) for accelerated programs only. Most
programs do not require any SAT IIs.
** Bryn Mawr allows you to submit the SAT I with two SAT IIs (subject tests) OR the SAT I with
AP tests in two different disciplines.
